Homeowners’ Meeting

February 19, 2008 by Marquel Leave a Comment

A meeting of the homeowners’ has been called for March 1 at 1:00 PM.  This is a get-to-business meeting, meaning, we are not planning any frills or pot luck or anything like that.  The primary agenda is to discuss lowering our monthly dues to better reflect actual costs, i.e.;  the city is now picking up our trash and we are no longer required to pay someone else for this service.

Any other topics of interest may also be raised.

I’ll print this out and pass it around to everyone as well.

Hope to see everyone at the party house on Saturday, March 1, 1:00 PM

Hav-a-Holiday

November 12, 2007 by Marquel 2 Comments

Several residents have expressed an interest in bringing back a lost Haversham tradition.  Once upon a time, during the Holiday Season, several homes in Haversham would get together to host a roaming party of sorts. At one home, everyone would meet for before-dinner-drinks and socializing, then everyone would move on to another home for appetizers, then off again for dinner, another house for dessert and finally a last house for after-dinner-drinks and more fun.   There has been a big interest in bringing back this old tradition, so long as we remember to keep it family oriented.  To do so, we need some volunteers.  Who would like to host a part of the party?  We want to keep it simple and may even want the actual dinner in the party house.  It’s a bit intimidating and cumbersome to cook a whole meal for that many people.  This way, several households can join together for the dinner stage.

I think it’s a great opportunity to bring our special community closer together and spend some time with all the new Haversham families.  We need suggestions for a date, volunteers to help organize and people who do not mind opening up their homes.

Please let me know if you are interested.  The more who participate, the better!  Call me at 747-0321 or email me at marquelb@prodigy.net

Thanks,

Marquel White

Letter from the City regarding trash service

November 12, 2007 by Marquel Leave a Comment

Please read the following letter from the city:

 Solid Waste Services

Welcome to Residents of Haversham.

Garbage Pick up days for Haversham will be Monday and Thursday.

PLEASE NOTE:  If a city holiday falls on Monday or Thursday, there will only be one garbage collection day that week on the non-holiday collection day.  Any excess garbage during holiday periods can be bagged and placed beside carts for collection.Upcoming City of
Lubbock Holidays that will affect cart pickup days:

  • Thanksgiving – only one trash pickup on Monday, November 19th
  • Christmas – only one trash pickup on Thursday, December 27th
  • New Year’s Day – regular trash pick on Monday, December 31st  and Thursday, January 4th – no change due to holiday being on Tuesday
  • Martin Luther King Day – only one trash pickup on Thursday, January 24th 2008

Household trash must be bagged before placing it in roll-out cart.  Boxes do not have to be bagged but should be broken down before being placed in the cart.

Please put roll-out carts by street curb or edge of front lawn in an area that is not obstructed by parked vehicles, etc. by 7:00 a.m. on collection mornings.  Remove carts from street by 7 p.m.

Please note that when we receive our automated cart collection truck, the placement of carts may have to change so that the automated truck arm can get to the cart.  Currently the carts are rolled out to the truck by the truck driver.  We will meet with your neighborhood association to discuss any changes at a later date.

If you have any questions, please call 775-2482 and speak with Debra Frankhouser.  Copies of our

Recycling
Centers and Citizen Collection Stations brochures are attached.

Thank you.

CITY TRASH SERVICE FOR HAVERSHAM!

November 8, 2007 by Marquel Leave a Comment

Major announcement regarding trash service.  The city of Lubbock will begin picking up our trash.  Each household will receive a roll out trash can by the week of November 19th.  I have just finished emailing every address to Debra and she has promised that they will be here by that date or sooner.  The cans are 96 gallons (which will hold approx.  3 of those large lawn bags).  It is a must that all the trash be placed in bags, no loose trash in the cans.  They are manually emptied.  So please please please remember not to toss loose trash in them.  Each can, when delivered, will have your address labeled on it (they’ve asked us not to mix them up) and a pamphlet which explains the procedures for utilization of this new system.

At some point in the future, the city will have trucks which will automate dumping the cans, but they are unsure when those trucks will arrive and do not expect them very soon.  There will be a slight change of procedure when this occurs, but nothing drastic.   Also, they do plan to have smaller cans available in the near future, so after using these, if you decide you could get by with a smaller one, they will exhange your can.  I will let everyone know when these are available.

Debra has asked that I tell everyone we are receiving this service ahead of other areas because we did have city trash service until Lubbock changed to the dumpster system, which the Haversham community could not accomodate and also because of problems with windblown and scattered trash.

I do not yet have a pick up schedule, but will notify everyone as soon as I get it.

The cans are supposed to be easy to handle.  This will help to keep Haversham clean and reduce pest problems.  If anyone has a question or concern (about the new trash system) give me a call at 747-0321 or email me at marquelb@prodigy.net

I will also pass out this info on a flyer to every house because I know some people probably do not check online.

Thanks,

Marquel White

Pool recovered

October 20, 2007 by Editor Leave a Comment

Thanks to all for Saturday help; the pool is relatively clean and is covered again. Helpers included Steve White, Karen Allison, Jeff Wheeler, John Williams, Nancy, Doug and Sandy Reddick and Priscilla Faulkner.

Work began with crews removing the water tubes and leaves from the pool. Then the tarp’s remaining weights were removed and the tarp pulled back into the grass. Chlorine tablet baskets were re-populated, the tarp re-positioned, and buckets re-placed on the tarp.

PLEASE HELP!

We still need some 3-gallon or 5-gallon plastic buckets that we can use for weights on the two tarps. Karen Allison brought over three buckets, Nancy Reddick added another and things are a little more secure — but not secure enough to withstand the kinds of winds that came up later on Saturday.

Please help with your buckets.

Trash Fairy

June 18, 2007 by Nancy Reddick 1 Comment

Dear Neighbors, maybe it’s something I missed growing up. You know, like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. I did figure out the Tooth Fairy thing before my first children started losing teeth, but I really thought when I moved to Haversham that there was a Trash Fairy that lived somewhere over at the pool or the party house.

A Trash Fairy. You know, some creature endowed with [Read more…] about Trash Fairy

City Council

May 3, 2007 by brook roberts Leave a Comment

Hey everyone, with the upcoming city council election for our district, does anyone have an idea of which candidate can do the most to have the City pick-up our trash? Just want to make an informed vote.

Thanks,

Annual Meeting / potluck

May 2, 2007 by Andrew Pool Leave a Comment

Hey everyone,Just a couple of things.  Plan your dish you are bringing around sliced brisket.  If you have anything you would like to discuss at the meeting, please let me know and I will add to the agenda.  As you all know, it is time to elect new officers.  We appreciate our past neighbors that have served for the 06/07 year.  Historically, the next NEW neighbor that moves in is next in line to take a position.  However, that tradition has waned in the last three/four years.  Please give some consideration to being an officer and doing your part for the club.  If you would like to volunteer, that would be great, just let me or any of the other officers know.  Those now on board are Joe Elmore as Pres.  David Hart as VP, Janie Allen as Sec, myself as treasurer, and Alice Baker as parlimentarian.  As you enter office, during this time of the year, everything is in place and the wheels are turning.  If you want to know what the duties consist of, just let me or any of the others know.  Thanks

Kay Ward

New neighbors, easement work

February 22, 2007 by Andrew Pool 1 Comment

Hello neighbors,
The Parker/Cagle house ( 3106-42nd. street) has sold to Charlotte & Gary Bliass. They are moving from Cordova, Tennessee.
Some of you may have known that Steve Smith (Walker’s old house) has had a collapsed sewer line. (sorry about that Smith family) There has been an open trench in the easement for several weeks now. The utilities services of the city [Read more…] about New neighbors, easement work
