Bylaws offered for review

March 27, 2010 by Randy Reddick Leave a Comment

Haversham Club officers completed review of the Bylaws Saturday, March 27, some 35 days prior to the annual meeting, which is scheduled for May 1. Members will be asked to approve or revise and approve the bylaws at the annual meeting. The bylaws review was necessary as the last step in renewing the club’s incorporation as a nonprofit organization.

Work on the bylaws began last summer. Bylaws as revised are available online to members who are logged in to the Haversham site. Feedback on the bylaws should be provided no later than the May 1 meeting.

Xcel’s notice of rate change request

December 1, 2008 by Marquel Leave a Comment

I am not sure how many of you paid attention to the little pamphlet we all received last Tuesday from Xcel Energy.  It was a notice of rate change request, a petition they have filed with the Public Utility Commision (PUC).  The petition was filed on June 12, 2008 and the notice they gave to us was received on July 29th.  Of course, we have the right as consumers to file a protest in the form of a Motion to Intervene, so long as it is done within 45 days of the date the application was filed.  Nicely enough, Xcel chose not to notify us until AFTER that deadline had passed.  We plan to file a request for an extension to file a Motion to Intervene.  This is to give us enough time to research and determine what, if any, arguments can be made to prevent Xcel Energy from raising our rates and estimated 10% (on top of the unregulated fuel surcharge they already apply).  If we can unearth enough to support a Motion to Intervene, then we plan to file it with the PUC.  Anyone who would like to assist us with this or take part in our motion is welcome to do so.  I spoke with Norma Lopez, the Adminstrative Law Judge’s secretary, and she said that they see these protests done both ways, with separate individuals from a community filing separately and jointly.  However, the more people who protest the late notice, the more likely we are to be able to get an extension.

We seldom are given any opportunity to voice our outrage over the soaring energy costs.  In this one instance, we should have that chance.  If you would like to help us lodge this protest email me at marquelb@prodigy.net or give me a call 747-0321.  If you would like to lodge a separate request, that would be even better, but you’ll need to request an extension to file the Motion to Intervene.  You can do so by writing a letter stating that you wish for the Administrative Law Judge, Thomas Walton, to grant an extension to file a Motion to Intervene for PUC docket number: 35763 and SOAH Docket Number: 473083436 in the matter of:  Application of Southwest Public Service Company for Authority to Change Rates to Reconcile Fuel and Purchased Power Costs for 2006 and 2007 to Provide Credit for Fuel Cost Savings.   This letter may be faxed to:  Atten: Judge Walston at (512)475-4994  and also mailed to: PUC – Central Records  PO Box 13326  Austin, TX 78711-3326.

If you would like to ask more questions, here are the people I spoke with today who were most helpful:

SOAH:  Norma Lopez, (512)936-0713

PUC Consumer Protection Office:  (512)936-7150

Broken glass, trash at pool

September 1, 2008 by Nancy Reddick Leave a Comment

Neighbors:

This notice is aimed more at our new residents and their friends – who may not have read the Haversham Club Rules. Proper maintenance of the pool area and party house is our responsibility – yours and mine. We do not have hired help. Lubbock’s finest do not patrol the area.

Neither is there a Trash Fairy.

Glass:

First, if you must drink beer, drink it out of cans. ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS is allowed at the pool. If glass goes into the pool, we must drain the pool and completely clean it. There is at this writing a broken, clear glass behind a bush next to the door that goes from the pool to the party house. Will the guilty party please come clean it up – carefully.

Trash:

Dumpsters are not for use other than pool trash and tree limbs cut small enough to fit inside without doubling over. On Labor Day there were three, large empty boxes in the dumpster, and there was no room for the stinky trash with old food, beer bottles and dirty diapers someone apparently left for the Trash Fairy at the pool.

If you fill up a can in the pool / party house area, then you take the can to the dumpster and empty it. There are new trash can liners in the kitchen cupboard.

NOTE regarding cardboard boxes: If you flatten them and stack them next to your trash can, the city will pick them up.

New fences everywhere!

August 25, 2008 by Marquel Leave a Comment

As I walkedthrough the neighborhood commons, I am noticing new fences have been built and their remnants leaning around here and there.  I’m not being a messy-fuss person, I was just wondering what each of you planned to do with these older fence section?  If these are left-over/ ripped off and half worn to bits, then I might could come to some deal with you, seeing as how I am presently looking for used fence sections (and even old wobbly gates if I can find them), to help me with a few projects.  If You have anything along those lines and was wondering how to get rid of them, I’ll be happy to drag them over here.  Anyway, just thought  I’d put that out there and we could help one another solve two problems at once.  Let me know and Thanks.  Call me Marquel at 747-0321 (day or night as I seldom ever leave)

Hope you’ve had a good Summer.

Take care… Marquel

From Steve White-Possum Trapping 101 starting 6/1/08

May 30, 2008 by Marquel 1 Comment

In accordance with Nancy Reddick’s suggestion (and I sincerely appreciate her concern for our oasis), I picked up a small animal trap from the City.  The traps, which are baited with cat food, can only be set on Sun-Thurs and not on or the day before any holiday.  For those joining the hunt, you must call the City to come pick up any possums caught in the trap.  Do not attempt to dispose of any wild animals caught, with the exception of your or your neighbors’ pets and miniature children.  For those, please [Read more…] about From Steve White-Possum Trapping 101 starting 6/1/08

Annual Meeting Reminder

April 29, 2008 by Marquel 1 Comment

I will pass around a flyer to remind everyone that our annual home owners’ meeting is scheduled for this coming Saturday at 12:00 noon.  We will elect officers, discuss orders of business and enjoy a great pot-luck lunch with our friends and neighbors.  We have some new families in our special community and this is a great opportunity to meet and welcome them to Haversham.  This is a reminder of the pot-luck schedule:

42nd St- Salads

Gary Ave.: breads

Flint Ave: side dishes

40th St. : Desserts

Haversham picks up the main dish (probably BBQ).  The luncheon is always fun and tasty, so I hope everyone will make plans to attend.  But remember, as this is a meeting to elect officers for 2008-09, we need as many households as possible represented.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Party House this Saturday.

Thanks,

Marquel White

Recreational Development Brainstorm Meeting

April 10, 2008 by Marquel Leave a Comment

Many residents have expressed great interest in restoring the Commons to its original purpose of a recreational area for the Haversham community.  Steve has approved formation of an informal committee to brainstorm ideas and investigate costs and financial resources that may be available to do this.  Anyone interested in taking part in this committee is encouraged to do so. There will be an informal meeting this Friday, April 11, at 1:00 at the home home of Sandra Marberry, 3108 42nd Street.  This is a brainstorm meeting over coffee and poundcake and children are welcome. If you cannot attend, but have an idea for improving the Commons, feel free to email me and I’ll take your suggestion to the meeting. I hope to see you there.
