Broken glass, trash at pool

September 1, 2008 by Nancy Reddick Leave a Comment

Neighbors:

This notice is aimed more at our new residents and their friends – who may not have read the Haversham Club Rules. Proper maintenance of the pool area and party house is our responsibility – yours and mine. We do not have hired help. Lubbock’s finest do not patrol the area.

Neither is there a Trash Fairy.

Glass:

First, if you must drink beer, drink it out of cans. ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS is allowed at the pool. If glass goes into the pool, we must drain the pool and completely clean it. There is at this writing a broken, clear glass behind a bush next to the door that goes from the pool to the party house. Will the guilty party please come clean it up – carefully.

Trash:

Dumpsters are not for use other than pool trash and tree limbs cut small enough to fit inside without doubling over. On Labor Day there were three, large empty boxes in the dumpster, and there was no room for the stinky trash with old food, beer bottles and dirty diapers someone apparently left for the Trash Fairy at the pool.

If you fill up a can in the pool / party house area, then you take the can to the dumpster and empty it. There are new trash can liners in the kitchen cupboard.

NOTE regarding cardboard boxes: If you flatten them and stack them next to your trash can, the city will pick them up.

New fences everywhere!

August 25, 2008 by Marquel Leave a Comment

As I walkedthrough the neighborhood commons, I am noticing new fences have been built and their remnants leaning around here and there.  I’m not being a messy-fuss person, I was just wondering what each of you planned to do with these older fence section?  If these are left-over/ ripped off and half worn to bits, then I might could come to some deal with you, seeing as how I am presently looking for used fence sections (and even old wobbly gates if I can find them), to help me with a few projects.  If You have anything along those lines and was wondering how to get rid of them, I’ll be happy to drag them over here.  Anyway, just thought  I’d put that out there and we could help one another solve two problems at once.  Let me know and Thanks.  Call me Marquel at 747-0321 (day or night as I seldom ever leave)

Hope you’ve had a good Summer.

Take care… Marquel

Club meeting June 14

June 10, 2008 by Editor Leave a Comment

Haversham Neighbors:

We are having a meeting at noon on June 14 to get an update and take appropriate action on our legal status as a club.

At our annual  meeting May 3, we authorized President Steve White to investigate what would be necessary to 1) reinstate our corporate status and 2) regain non-profit status as an organization [501(c)(4)].  Furthermore, we authorized the President to spend up to $1,500 to accomplish those goals. Minutes of the annual meeting are available online.

Steve has met with Crenshaw, Dupree & Milam on this matter on behalf of the association, and has received their estimate in writing. Because the estimated costs are more than $1,500, we need to have a meeting.

Randy Reddick,
Secretary, Haversham Club

From Steve White-Possum Trapping 101 starting 6/1/08

May 30, 2008 by Marquel 1 Comment

In accordance with Nancy Reddick’s suggestion (and I sincerely appreciate her concern for our oasis), I picked up a small animal trap from the City.  The traps, which are baited with cat food, can only be set on Sun-Thurs and not on or the day before any holiday.  For those joining the hunt, you must call the City to come pick up any possums caught in the trap.  Do not attempt to dispose of any wild animals caught, with the exception of your or your neighbors’ pets and miniature children.  For those, please [Read more…] about From Steve White-Possum Trapping 101 starting 6/1/08

Annual Meeting Reminder

April 29, 2008 by Marquel 1 Comment

I will pass around a flyer to remind everyone that our annual home owners’ meeting is scheduled for this coming Saturday at 12:00 noon.  We will elect officers, discuss orders of business and enjoy a great pot-luck lunch with our friends and neighbors.  We have some new families in our special community and this is a great opportunity to meet and welcome them to Haversham.  This is a reminder of the pot-luck schedule:

42nd St- Salads

Gary Ave.: breads

Flint Ave: side dishes

40th St. : Desserts

Haversham picks up the main dish (probably BBQ).  The luncheon is always fun and tasty, so I hope everyone will make plans to attend.  But remember, as this is a meeting to elect officers for 2008-09, we need as many households as possible represented.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Party House this Saturday.

Thanks,

Marquel White

Recreational Development Brainstorm Meeting

April 10, 2008 by Marquel Leave a Comment

Many residents have expressed great interest in restoring the Commons to its original purpose of a recreational area for the Haversham community.  Steve has approved formation of an informal committee to brainstorm ideas and investigate costs and financial resources that may be available to do this.  Anyone interested in taking part in this committee is encouraged to do so. There will be an informal meeting this Friday, April 11, at 1:00 at the home home of Sandra Marberry, 3108 42nd Street.  This is a brainstorm meeting over coffee and poundcake and children are welcome. If you cannot attend, but have an idea for improving the Commons, feel free to email me and I’ll take your suggestion to the meeting. I hope to see you there.

Homeowners’ Meeting

February 19, 2008 by Marquel Leave a Comment

A meeting of the homeowners’ has been called for March 1 at 1:00 PM.  This is a get-to-business meeting, meaning, we are not planning any frills or pot luck or anything like that.  The primary agenda is to discuss lowering our monthly dues to better reflect actual costs, i.e.;  the city is now picking up our trash and we are no longer required to pay someone else for this service.

Any other topics of interest may also be raised.

I’ll print this out and pass it around to everyone as well.

Hope to see everyone at the party house on Saturday, March 1, 1:00 PM

Please read the following letter from the city:

 Solid Waste Services

Welcome to Residents of Haversham.

Garbage Pick up days for Haversham will be Monday and Thursday.

PLEASE NOTE:  If a city holiday falls on Monday or Thursday, there will only be one garbage collection day that week on the non-holiday collection day.  Any excess garbage during holiday periods can be bagged and placed beside carts for collection.Upcoming City of
Lubbock Holidays that will affect cart pickup days:

  • Thanksgiving – only one trash pickup on Monday, November 19th
  • Christmas – only one trash pickup on Thursday, December 27th
  • New Year’s Day – regular trash pick on Monday, December 31st  and Thursday, January 4th – no change due to holiday being on Tuesday
  • Martin Luther King Day – only one trash pickup on Thursday, January 24th 2008

Household trash must be bagged before placing it in roll-out cart.  Boxes do not have to be bagged but should be broken down before being placed in the cart.

Please put roll-out carts by street curb or edge of front lawn in an area that is not obstructed by parked vehicles, etc. by 7:00 a.m. on collection mornings.  Remove carts from street by 7 p.m.

Please note that when we receive our automated cart collection truck, the placement of carts may have to change so that the automated truck arm can get to the cart.  Currently the carts are rolled out to the truck by the truck driver.  We will meet with your neighborhood association to discuss any changes at a later date.

If you have any questions, please call 775-2482 and speak with Debra Frankhouser.  Copies of our

CITY TRASH SERVICE FOR HAVERSHAM!

November 8, 2007 by Marquel Leave a Comment

Major announcement regarding trash service.  The city of Lubbock will begin picking up our trash.  Each household will receive a roll out trash can by the week of November 19th.  I have just finished emailing every address to Debra and she has promised that they will be here by that date or sooner.  The cans are 96 gallons (which will hold approx.  3 of those large lawn bags).  It is a must that all the trash be placed in bags, no loose trash in the cans.  They are manually emptied.  So please please please remember not to toss loose trash in them.  Each can, when delivered, will have your address labeled on it (they’ve asked us not to mix them up) and a pamphlet which explains the procedures for utilization of this new system.

At some point in the future, the city will have trucks which will automate dumping the cans, but they are unsure when those trucks will arrive and do not expect them very soon.  There will be a slight change of procedure when this occurs, but nothing drastic.   Also, they do plan to have smaller cans available in the near future, so after using these, if you decide you could get by with a smaller one, they will exhange your can.  I will let everyone know when these are available.

Debra has asked that I tell everyone we are receiving this service ahead of other areas because we did have city trash service until Lubbock changed to the dumpster system, which the Haversham community could not accomodate and also because of problems with windblown and scattered trash.

I do not yet have a pick up schedule, but will notify everyone as soon as I get it.

The cans are supposed to be easy to handle.  This will help to keep Haversham clean and reduce pest problems.  If anyone has a question or concern (about the new trash system) give me a call at 747-0321 or email me at marquelb@prodigy.net

I will also pass out this info on a flyer to every house because I know some people probably do not check online.

Thanks,

Marquel White
